SAY IT LOUD: FASHION COMMUNICATION DAY 1

How were your ideas of fashion communication developed or challenged by the activity that you undertook?

We begun looking at unconventional themes surrounding our chosen subcultures, these were in the contexts of gorp core and Greek mythology, this is how we begun to develop it, we tried to look at how we could incorporate the two themes. We looked into Greek gods and purposefully chose the goddess Diana of Ephesus. We realised that gorp core tends to have baggy silhouettes and added bulk to certain clothes and so having the three breasted goddess reflects the silhouette of gorp core. We did also look at other subculture

There were challenges faced in this sessions we realised that the garments that we chose were heavy but that was with intention, however it was hard to keep the clothes on the models due to their weight so we kept altering the shape of the garments and the positioning of the pins to keep everything steady.

We also incorporated juxtaposition into our theme to create added contrast and a more visually appealing look. We used me but we added a more baggy look to add emphasis on the bulk of the clothes, on ares (the taller model) we added less weight as we found he already embodies the theme.

How did you respond to working as a team?

Before beginning the styling we discussed which subcultures we have interests in and as we tried to fond our style we began to merge some subcultures and remove some so that the final outcome would look more cohesive.

In what ways was the approach you chose effective in transforming the body?

So we decided to pick a short and tall model (me and ares) as well realised I’m the shortest and he’s the tallest and so there was greater juxtaposition incorporated in the final look, we also voiced our opinions on how to make it better
